Ahoy! Meskerem Mees
Meskerem Mees singer songwriter emerged from the Belgian music scene in 2020 with her debut single ‘Joe’. The freely wandering, soul catching wibes of her songs immediately resonated with the audience bringing her more and more success. Next she’s coming to the Ship to mesmerize us with her music on the 24th of September but before that we were curious about a few things and cought her for a few thoughts.
We thought we’d entered a James Bond movie | Movits!
Swedish swing/jazz/hiphop trio Movits! released their latest album Halleluja last year and they are coming back to the A38 after their amazingly memorable performances here in 2012, 2016 and 2019. Vocalist Johan Jivin’ Rensfeldt, DJ/multiinstrumentalist Anders Renfeldt (Johan’s brother) and drummer Joakim ‘One-Take’ Nilsson are famous for their ecstatic gigs, and they were also kind enough to have a chat with us ahead of their show on September 11.
A soundtrack to covid | Jozef Van Wissem
“Perhaps the best known lute artist of the western world” – this is what noted music website The Quietus wrote about Jozef Van Wissem, and it’s hard to argue with their statement. The life of this special, introverted Dutch artist has been connected to the lute for quite some time now. He moved to New York in 1993 and devoted most of his time to the mastering of this instrument. His most famous work is the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch’s strange vampire movie Only Lovers Left Alive, he’s also made collaborative albums with the famous director, and he kindly answered our interview questions as well.
There is so much amazing Aussie music | Ocean Alley
They blend psychedelic rock music with reggae and other influences, they have three albums under their belt and they’ve already finished the recordings of their fourth LP. They’re more and more popular in their native Australia, and they’re making a name in other parts of the world. After their memorable gig at Sziget three years ago, Ocean Alley are coming back to Hungary to play their first ever club concert here. We asked guitarist Mitch Galbraith about their influences, the Aussie scene, album No. 4, and more.
We have a pretty good system now | Front Line Assembly
Starting out from Vancouver in 1986, Front Line Assembly count as one of the most relevant and legendary acts on the EBM and industrial scene. Comprising longtime members Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber (the latter hasn’t always been part of the group), FLA have released 17 albums so far, the latest one being 2021’s Mechanical Soul. After a four-year absence, partly due to covid, we can welcome the band aboard the A38, along with Die Krupps and Tension Control. We asked FLA a bunch of questions, Rhys was kind enough to answer.
A cél a keserédesség, túl jó íze van | Kristoaf
A hazai dalszerző-énekesek legújabb generációjának egyik legizgalmasabb fazonja Kristoaf, aki augusztusban lép fel a Hajón. Pályája kezdő lépéseiről beszélgettünk.
It is still exploding | KOOP Oscar Orchestra
Swedish outfit KOOP, one of the most important bands of modern, electronic-based, dancey nu jazz, has returned from its state of apparent death – yet again. Following a long silence, the composer of the former duo, Oscar Simonsson set up a new formation. Old hits and new songs were performed with Koop’s signature floaty, swingy, melancholy sound on the Ship six years ago, and you can expect the same at KOOP Oscar Orchestra’s second A38 gig, on August 5. In order to prepare, we are revisiting the interview we did with Oscar in 2016.
